Who are you and what do you do at Lisa Dawson Interiors?
Hi, my name is Catharine, but my friends call me Cat. I view the world through a creative lens and like to stop and appreciate the little things, like texture, colour, pattern or lighting. I love to experiment with these, creating and combining them in different ways, and that’s why I am so at home in the world of design.
My role at the studio has proved quite diverse so far; liaising with clients, ordering and unpacking deliveries, checking through many a metre of fabric, design and learning the techniques to make these wonderful creations we have here at Lisa’s!
Where do you live?
I have a family with two children, a dog and a cat and feel very lucky to be able to live in Aylsham. The beach is my absolute favourite place to go – it’s my happy place. I moved to Norfolk three years ago, from Cambridge where I grew up with my family of five siblings!

What experience do you have?
My experience with textiles is predominantly in fashion, I received a BA Hons degree in Fashion and Textile Design from Winchester School of Arts. Studying there was a great inspiration for me as it is such a picturesque setting, and not too far from the hub of it all in London. These were the years in which I could begin to further develop my skills and show case my ideas, culminating in my Graduate Knitwear Collection and work featured by the highly reputable fashion forecaster, WGSN.

Since then, I have worked at a fashionable London knitwear firm where I was involved in both design and production and more recently, freelance design, making things as diverse as bespoke wedding veils to sports entertainment costumes to name a few. Over the past two years I have designed and manufactured a collection of Fashion and Home wear Accessories for Balmoral Castle, working with Johnstones of Elgin who design and produce the official tweed used by the Royal Estates. I recently visited Balmoral Castle to witness some of my collection.

What is your style?
My style in the home has developed over time to adapt to a more functional way of life since having young children! However, I love having fun combining pattern and adding a pop of colour. I’m currently loving the Bohemian style adding shaggy textures, fun colour and a real statement chair.
I have always loved to experiment with different fabrics, colours, textures and shapes, and the idea of applying myself, with my fashion background, into the world of Interior Design I find really exciting - Designing and dressing for a house rather than a body. I’m really enjoying learning the design aspect of interiors and, of course delving myself into the incredible fabric library!
