How to Create A Moodboard

Once the festivities are over and there is hopefully some time to relax, you can turn your attentions to some home decor plans and spend a while getting inspiration for a new room or project.

A great way to do this is by creating a mood board - if there is a special ornament or rug for example that you want to use as inspiration, then take this as your central piece and work round it by including colours and textures of fabrics, paint and wallpaper.

A favourite green dish has been used here and other calming colours added to the mix including soft greys and pale blues, with a shot of pink as a contrast colour.

Here the textures and patterns are more pronounced, even though the colour palette is still quite minimal - the soft pink adds the contrast. This can be translated in many ways but could be used to create a stunning statement upholstery piece with a range of co-ordinating cushions.

There are so many places to find inspiration - from Google searches to Pinterest but one of our suppliers, Linwood Fabrics, has taken the mystery out of how a project will look by sending each customer a 'look book'. This is ideal if you find it hard to visualise how something will look when it is made into curtains or upholstery. You can choose any of their samples and they arrive packed in a special book which gives you an image of what they will look like.

Simply choose your samples
Your choice is recreated
And the image arrives with the samples

It couldn't be easier! There are a wide range of fabrics to choose from, all available to view in our studio, so whynot take a look.

Linwood Fabrics do not sell online, neither do they deal with very large companies so you know you are getting something bespoke and unusual when you order through them. We are always happy to advise and show you the ranges available.

So take some time out and make some resolutions for the New Year. Tired looking bedroom? Updated sitting room? Posh-up the downstairs loo? The possibilities are endless and we are here to help with fabrics, wallpaper and paint colours - just pop in and say hello. And in the meantime may we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
