We always like to celebrate home-grown talent and there is so much of it across the United Kingdom including many beautiful fabric and wallpaper producers both large and small. Favourites of ours include Lewis & Wood which by its own admission maintains that their success lies with their commitment to be different. Beautiful screen printed designs on linen featuring many different collections in a soft colour palette teamed with bolder collections full of Eastern promise - alongside an impressive 35 designs in over 100 colourways of wide width wallpapers such as the one featured above - Bosky - an ethereal design by artist Alexander Hamilton.
If you are after heritage then look no further than Cole & Son, founded in 1875 by John Perry, son of a Cambridgeshire merchant. In those days the company was situated in Islington, north London, an area famous for the 190 hand block printing companies working there in the 18th and 19th centuries. Many of the designs we see today are inspired by their magnificent archive, true to the character of the original design but adapted and coloured to produce a contemporary feel.
For home grown textiles, Sarah Hardaker really fits the bill. Sarah says "Most of our products are made in the UK. We strongly believe that this enables us to maintain excellent quality standards and extend great customer service to you. Using small family owned manufacturing companies, we weave most of our linen in Scotland and print our designs in England. We are truly proud to say our products are 'made in the UK'."
Beautiful linens in soft pastel colours dominate with inspiration taken from many places including our very own Norfolk which evokes big skies and salty marshes and an abundance of wildlife.
