Curtain Measuring Guidelines

Calculating Pole or Track Length
As a general rule add 30% to the width of the window (including the frame).  This may have to be reduced if there are radiators, furniture, dooways or walls in the way.

Width Poles – measure width between finials.

Width Tracks – measure widths from end to end (if track overlaps in the middle you must include the overlap).

Drop Poles – measure from hook in underside of ring to finished hem (this will be sill, below sill or floor length depending on your design).

Drop Tracks – measure from glider in underside of track to finished hem (this will be sill, below sill or floor length depending on your design).

Note:
Always use a metal tape measure rather than fabric or fibreglass.
Measure left, centre and right for total accuracy.

Curtain – Calculating Fabric Quantities

  • As a rough guide allow 1 width of fabric per 50cm of pole or track.
  • To find the cut drop take the finished drop and add 30cm for headings and hems (for patterned fabrics you also need to add 1 whole pattern repeat).
  • For the total amount required multiply the no. of widths by the cut drop.
